Sites Bike Tour
The Historic and Cultural bike tour is our comprehensive tour of the area's rich history. Once one of the nation's busiest ports and shipbuilding cities, Portsmouth expressed its wealth in fine architecture and has significant examples of Colonial, Georgian, and Federal style houses, some of which are now museums. This historic and cultural tour will take you through the most beautiful and interesting characteristics, architecture, and historic significant aspects of the city. We will see the historic landmarks and house museums and hear about the history that makes up our delightful and highly admired historic landscape. Stop en route to hear interesting facts about each site you visit, including the Wentworth Coolidge Mansion, Fitz John Porter Memorial, African Burying Memorial, Prescott Park, Four Tree Island, Historic South End, Wentworth by the Sea, Fort Stark, and Great Island Common. We share some information of the historic home's architectural features as we bike our way thru the Historic South End's beautifully preserved architecture of Georgian, Federal and Colonial-style homes, such as the Wentworth Gardner - Historic Museum.
From the bustling streets of downtown to the serene byways along the River, this tour truly brings you to most of the historic sites. Over the course of three hours, we’ll take you through the most beautiful and interesting historic spots of the area to learn about its rich history and see the incredible preserved architecture. All of our bike tours include an individually-fitted bike, helmet, and, of course, a friendly and knowledgeable guide who leads you on your travels.

What to Expect:
At your selected departure time, meet your local guide and get fitted for a 21-speed hybrid comfort bike at the John Paul Jones Historic House, and embark on a bike tour of Portsmouth and New Castle NH landmarks, monuments, and memorials. Follow your guide at a leisurely pace over relatively flat terrain. Stop en route to hear interesting facts from your guide about each site you visit, including Prescott Park, Wentworth Coolidge Mansion, Wentworth by the Sea, Fort Stark, Moffatt Ladd House where William Whipple signer of the Declaration of Independence, lived. Learn about some of the historic home's architectural features of the memorials along the Piscataqua River, including the stately John Fitz Porter Memorial and the First Printing House. Check out the John Paul Jones House Museum - Father of the American Navy, before you depart where your tour concludes.

While we will have water for purchase, you might consider bringing a sports drink or snack. In the summer months, sunscreen and sunglasses are highly recommended!

• Easy going with some small hills
This tour is not recommended for those who are uncomfortable cycling on city streets. We welcome families with children who are comfortable cyclists and at least 14 years old. Younger riders and those less comfortable on two wheels are encouraged to take our Hidden Neighborhood Tour. The tour is roughly 10% in parks and paths and 90% in street-riding.
While water will be provided, you might consider bringing an extra sports drink or snack.
