Overview

Cycle the New Hampshire coastline – or most of the 18 miles of it! Enjoy cycling around the islands of New Castle and along the ocean, while we pass by the summer cottages, lighthouses, secluded beaches, coastal walkways, and seafood shanties. We'll bike the best of New Hampshire's Seacoast from Portsmouth to North Hampton and stop along the way for pictures and sightseeing.

This tour is centered around the Piscataqua River, Atlantic Ocean seaside beaches and villages. On this extensive tour of the coast NH coastline, we'll see and bike through the picturesque villages, and the small quaint seaside beaches.

 

Your expert tour guide will take you along the most breathtaking vistas while stopping at a few main historic points of interest along the way. Great for coastal rides! More options on our site. New Hampshire has the country’s shortest stretch of seacoast – yet every mile is breathtaking by bicycle. Your expert guide will take the length of the “Coastal Scenic Byway” passing by mansions, vast gardens, lighthouses, and state parks featuring attractive beaches, rocky headlands, and coves.

What to Expect:

At your selected departure time, meet your local guide and get fitted for a 21-speed hybrid comfort bike at the John Paul Jones Historic House, and embark on a bike tour of Portsmouth, Rye, North Hampton, and New Castle NH to visit landmarks, monuments, and memorials. Follow your guide on a moderately paced tour and stop en route to hear interesting facts from your guide about each site you visit, including Prescott Park, Wentworth by the Sea, Fort Stark, New Castle Common, Rye State Park's Captain John Smith Memorial, and the African Burying Memorial.  You'll head along the scenic route 1A and 1B coastal routes and tuck into the countryside of Rye, NH to see the sprawling mansions and Fuller Gardens. Check out the John Paul Jones House Museum - Father of the American Navy, before you depart where your tour concludes.

Additional Information:

  • This tour is not recommended for those who are uncomfortable cycling on city streets. We welcome families with children who are comfortable cyclists and at least 14 years old. Younger riders and those less comfortable on two wheels are encouraged to take our Tour de Portsmouth. The tour is roughly 10% in parks and paths and 90% in street riding.

  • While water will be provided, you might consider bringing an extra sports drink or snack.
